Intermittent rain throughout the day Tuesday did not affect the enthusiasm of parents and athletes on the second day of competition at the USA Diving Junior National Championships at the Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

Sawyer Watts and Raine Rutter returned to the podium in the Group D (11 and Under) platform competition.  Watts came away with the gold with a score of 229.75 and Rutter earned the silver with a score of 206.95 points.  London Smith followed in third place with a score of 192.55.

In the girls’ Group C (12 and 13 years) 1-meter contest, Alden Charette of the Marlins Diving Club scored 287 points to take the gold medal.  She was just ahead of silver medalist Hannah McLaughlin of Woodlands Diving Academy, with less than two points separating the two athletes. This was one of the closest contests of the day.  Ella Guo of Arrow Dive Club was the bronze medalist with a score of 278.10.

In the boys’ Group D (11 and under) 3-meter contest, Charles Torrione of Duke Diving earned the gold with a score of 215.65.  He was followed by Truitt Worl (The Indiana International School of Diving), who won the silver medal with 202.25 points.  Santa Clara Diving’s Henry Wong was a close third with 201.70 points.

Once again there was some fantastic diving from international athletes in this event.  Ivan Kliminov of Mission Viejo Nadadores had the best list of the day with a score of 241.50 points.  Kliminov was also a finalist in platform competition held on day one.

Wednesday features competition in girls’ platform for group C athletes (12 and 13 years), girls’ 3-meter for group D athletes (11 and Under) and boys’ 1-meter for group D athletes (11 and Under).
