Parratto and Schnell Place Sixth in Synchronized 10-Meter at Olympic Games

PARIS – Jessica Parratto (Dover, N.H./Bloomington, Ind.) and Delaney Schnell (Tucson, Ariz.) finished sixth in women’s synchronized 10-meter Wednesday at the Olympic Games.

China’s Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi dominated the field with 359.10 points for gold, while North Korea’s Jo Jin Mi and Kim Mi Rae took silver at 315.90. Great Britain’s Lois Toulson and Andrew Spendolini Sirieix finished with 304.38 points for bronze.

Schnell and Parratto, the silver medalists at the Tokyo Olympic Games, finished with 287.52 points in Paris.

“It wasn't our best, but we want to say we're really proud of everything we've been able to accomplish throughout our entire career. It's been really special, and nothing takes away from what we've been able to accomplish – our Olympic silver medal from last time around and our world medal from last summer,” Parratto said. “There are so many great takeaways. It could have been anyone up on that podium. Unfortunately today it wasn't us, but again, we're really happy and proud.”

The American pair was in eighth place after two rounds of voluntary dives, then moved up to seventh after round three. They finished with 66.24 points on a back 2 ½ with 1 ½ that pushed them to sixth place in the last round.

“It wasn't our best, unfortunately, but it's not about the results. It's about the journey, and I don't want just how it ends to be what defines our career. I think in the end, we still have so many accomplishments behind our name, and I don't think that this experience should take away from that,” Schnell said.

Schnell will now prepare for her individual 10-meter competition, which begins August 5. She was fifth individually at the Tokyo Games.

“I'm ready to get going for that. You know, this is motivation, and it's going to be a quick turnaround, but I'm ready and I'm motivated,” Schnell said.

Diving at the Olympic Games continues through August 10. Next up for Team USA is Tyler Downs and Greg Duncan in the men’s synchronized 3-meter event on Friday.
